Farhat Iqbal, founder and president of Silica Solar LLC, is a physician by profession. Early in her career during her medical training she realized that most diseases were preventable if water and air quality were preserved. The effects of a non polluted healthy surrounding were vital to maintaining a good quality of life and human health. For the last 20 years married to an environmental engineer, she has closely studied the impacts of the fossil fuel industry on environmental degradation. The company came into being in January 2006 through the challenge that if global warming continues unabated, its effects may become irreversible. As the trends in catastrophic impacts of climate change grow, there is a need to make changes in our approach to electricity generation, and use of fossil fuel. Her company’s goal is to facilitate the use of solar energy sources and make them readily available so that everyone can make a difference in reducing the impacts of global warming and leave a healthy planet and ecological foot print for our children and grand children.
